Figma Cell Phone App

Project Overview:

The Product: A cell phone app created for customers who have order flowers multiple times a year or want to track the delivery of their orders.

My Role: Sole UX Designer conducting user research, wireframing, mockups as well as creating high & low fidelity prototypes.

Challenge: Creating a cell phone app for a florist using Figma.

Goal: Creating a high-fidelity prototype for a florist cell phone app.

Starting the Project: Prior to creating the design, I created personas, identified pain points and created a user journey, focusing on empathizing with the user.

Creating the Design: After identifying problems that the users might need to have solved, I created a sitemap and low fidelity paper prototype for the app, before creating a digital wireframe and low fidelity prototype using Figma.

Competitive Audit: Prior to starting the design, I completed a competitive audit of florists to determine how my website could stand out from competitors. You can view the full audit here.

Usability Study

Usability Study: After creating the low fidelity prototype, I conducted a moderated usability study with five participants, with each interview taking less than 10 minutes. Interview questions included whether or not it was easy to purchase a bouquet or flower subscription, whether they had difficulty using the app and if they liked and would use the app. Most the responses to the prototype were positive, though there were some minor navigability issues and confusing over some wording.

Positive Quotes from Users During the Usability Study:

“Shop by category: I like this idea!”

"I like how they’re not pushing [sales]”

“That was easy!”

Refining the Design

1. Log In Screen.jpg

Several of the study participants said that buying flowers was an impulse buy. In response, a guest sign in option was added.

Several of the study participants had trouble using the original back button (left).

Therefore, the back button was changed to make it more easily clickable (below).

What I Learned

During this project, I learned how to create personas and discover pain points as well as how to make both paper and digital wireframes. I also learned how to conduct competitive audits and usability studies. This was also my first time creating mockups as well as both low and high fidelity prototypes using Figma.
